2D Concepts Round 3 Final Color

For this week... I went ahead and started to model the high sculpt in Zbrush of the Cthulhu Statue. Using the previous week's concept as a reference.... this is the rough block out in zbrush. I under estimated how long it would take to do completely finish the sculpt.

2D Concepts Round 01 Silhouettes/ Thumbnail

For my team's project: Il Mistero Di Cthulhu (The mystery of Cthulhu)
I am in charge of modeling the centerpiece which is the mysterious idol of Cthulhu which may contain hidden knowledge or secret that could be used against Cthulhu.

This week I've done some silhouettes for the piece that will need to be further developed to be later modeled in 3D.

Bringing it all together Illustration (IDEA)

The idea I have for this 2 week project is.... John Carter (Based on the movie)

At the moment I'm thinking of a Cyberpunk style of John Carter, that is set in the futuristic setting with maybe post apocalyptic aspect.

Stylistically similar to the new game Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Project RED or Concept artist Ray Lederer.

Assignment: Basic Lighting (Week 6)

This week I took an object that I own which is a D.VA statue from the game Overwatch and set up a 3 point lighting scene and took a photo for reference for a painting.

Progress of the painting...

This is the result of the painting I did digitally. I tried to focus on values first then color.

Assignment: Perspective (Week 5)

This week's assignment I picked an art by artist John Berky. I took the main objects in his piece which were the spaceships and modeled a rough proxy in 3D in Maya. I used his art as a template to model from.

Using lightning in Maya and rendering out the scene, I then exported the file out into Photoshop.

One point perspective was used.

I used the 3D modeling to aid in modeling the form and value for the painting. This is the result.

Assignment: Composition (Week 4)

This week I took one a artwork from artist Drew Struzen and reproduced it. I also had to keep in mind what type of composition was used.

This is the artwork I chose, poster of Star Wars Phantom Menace

The poster/ artwork uses a "Radial" Composition. This particular style of composition uses a direct focal point usually off center and immediately draws the viewer into that specific spot, in this case with use of bright highlights around the ship. Then rest of the artwork "radiates" from the focal point and outward. After the view of the spaceship which is the main focal point, the eye is drawn towards Darth Maul's glowing eye which has more color but it sits back from the main focal point.

This is my Artwork I reproduced.

2D Assignment Value (Week 3)

For this week's assignment I took an already established line illustration from artist Frank Frezetta and used it as a reference for a value painting in Photoshop.

This is the original work.

This is my work. The direction of the light source is from the ground up, illuminating most of his
frontal pose. I left some of his line work to show through since it adds to the overall silhouette.

First 2D assignment (Week 1)

For the first 2D assignment the objective was to pick an artwork from Syd Mead and replicate it using simple shapes and slightly refine it with using value.

This is the artwork/ image I chose.

This was a learning curve for me because I never used the Wacom tablet before and it was very challenging to do any clean line work... here I was focused on figuring out the composition and structuring the objects using lines and breaking them down into simple shapes.

Here I decided to take it little further using color that was close to the image but only just using it as a reference to use for value and modeling the object. I stopped here where I ran out of time but it still captured an overall concept phase of the image.
