First I referenced in a Mannequin and cube from UE4 to get a sense of scale for the project.
Then I brought in reference modeling templates which were TGA files into Maya as image planes to assist accurately model the Cannon.
Here is the Cannon after I've finished modeling. Also doing the boolean step and cleaning up some geometry to get ready to export to UE4.
